sob story

Last week I met S. She’s a TV actress, who used to play a simple minded chotti bahu in a daily soap.

Her character would periodically get beaten by her husband.

S said she finally quit a few weeks back because the TRP’s started to drop.

I was like so, they drop all the time. Couldn’t you’ll do something to boost them.

She said that was the problem. The channel realised the only time the TRP’s would spike was when she was getting beaten.

So for the last three weeks, all she would do was go to work and get beaten all the time.

It’s a tough life i say.

I think positive serials would earn as much if not more TRPs, saas-bahu serials where women are strong, intelligent characters with minds of their own - 'Ladies Special' for example.
It's more a case of following the herd mentality. Each serial maker wants to copy the last idea that has been popular. The day a less regressive and a little more intelligent idea becomes a hit, we will see them making sensible serials.

@Mentalie - ROTFL!

@AGG - It's either that or she becomes a cheerleader for the IPL.

LOL!

Tell her to tell the producers to get a body double and that she'd be back only for off-beat scenes!

Weird and absurd portrayal.. certainly she might write an autobiography years from now...and write episodes err.. chapters about how and why she was beaten and by who. That will come out as another soap and another woman will start getting beaten up.

star one had a press release on afaqs.com about two new shows - rang badalti odhni and geet- sabse hui parayi. They claimed these shows were for progressive urban women. I died of laughter.

the most disturbing fact is that the TRP's are probably rising cause of female eyeballs.

Women across the country who are seeing this and reconciling with their fates - thinking if its happening to good looking babes on television then it must be the only way.

I shudder.
